EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MAKEUP ARTIST VLADISLAVA KOZACHYSHCHE

What sparked your passion for makeup artistry, and how has it evolved?

People around me encouraged me to try makeup, seeing potential before I did. I quickly fell in love with it, and since then, I’ve continued to explore and evolve within the craft.

How did your collaborations with artists like Swae Lee and Bring Me the Horizon come about?

I owe much to the connections I’ve made. In Los Angeles, relationships are everything, and my network has opened doors. I didn’t directly do makeup for these artists but contributed to those projects, which was a huge learning experience.

What were the key takeaways from assisting a makeup artist for Grammy winner Allison Russell?

Assisting the brilliant Uzo was an eye-opener. Her professionalism showed me what’s possible in this field. It was inspiring to see Allison Russell perform at the Grammys. I dream of doing makeup for Grammy winners myself one day.

What challenges did you face as a self-taught makeup artist, and how did you overcome them?

Imposter syndrome is a major challenge for self-taught artists. Overcoming it requires personal growth and learning to acknowledge your own worth.

How do you stay current with the latest beauty trends and techniques? Social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest make staying updated easy. Trends change quickly, but visual observation and replicating looks help me keep up.

How do you balance your freelance makeup work with your influencer role?

I make the most of “content days” to create material for my influencer platform when I’m not booked. It helps me balance both careers while continuously growing my brand.

Do you have a favorite type of makeup project, and how do you approach each one?

I love working on photoshoots. Collaborating with photographers has become my primary focus, and it’s rewarding to see both clients and photographers appreciate my work.

How do you develop a makeup look for a music video or photoshoot?

It starts with understanding the director’s vision. Sometimes they provide references; other times, I suggest ideas. I often pull inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest, but I make sure to add my unique touch.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of your career so far?

The freedom to work creatively, without needing to sit in an office, has been incredibly rewarding. As an immigrant, supporting myself with my passion feels like a huge achievement. How do you enhance natural beauty while allowing clients to express their unique personalities?

Enhancing natural beauty doesn’t interfere with personality. I always start by emphasizing their best features, but if they want something bold or extra, I’m happy to adjust. What new creative avenues are you excited to explore in the future?

One of my dreams is to work on a major movie or TV show. I’m working hard toward achieving that.

What are your long-term goals, and how do you envision your makeup artist journey evolving?

I want to keep growing, doing more music videos, commercials, and eventually movies. My ultimate goal is to launch my own makeup brand, filling gaps I’ve noticed as an artist. How do you feel about shooting for Voraka Magazine and what does it mean for your creative goals?

Being published in Voraka Magazine is a great honor. It’s exciting to be featured in such an international publication, and I’m grateful for this opportunity.
