ABOUT THE BOOK

Love in the Storm is a powerful and emotional novel that explores the invisible wounds we carry and the intricate web of human relationships. Set against the vibrant backdrop of New York City, a serene farm in Ocala, and cultural influences reaching as far as Europe and Latin America, the book embraces a truly international spirit, reflecting the richness and complexity of our globalized world.
At the heart of the story is Alyson Riley, a passionate, strong, and deeply wounded woman. After facing betrayal and emotional pain, she finds herself incapable of fully accepting love, even when it’s offered with sincerity. Charles, a man equally scarred by past disappointments, spends months trying to win her heart. But Alyson, trapped in her own defenses, keeps him at arm’s length.
When Charles’s former fiancée unexpectedly returns to town, Alyson’s jealousy surfaces, a reaction that surprises even herself. But Charles, wounded by Alyson’s earlier rejection and bound by a document she made him sign (forbidding any physical contact under threat of banishment from the farm), interprets her sudden affection as part of a manipulative game. His pride blinds him to her vulnerability.
When Alyson finally makes a bold move to show her desire, Charles pushes her away, convinced it’s all a cruel strategy, perhaps even one crafted with Vitório, the real villain behind the scenes. Vitório, a complex and dark figure in the narrative, manipulates both Charles and Alyson by weaponizing their pride and emotional wounds. In a twisted alliance with Charles’s ex-fiancée, he uses misunderstanding and mistrust to drive a wedge between the two lovers, not out of love or jealousy, but out of a deeper desire to control and destroy. Through these intertwined stories, Luciana Soares explores themes of identity, trauma, the unconscious forces that guide us, and the fragile balance between desire and fear. The novel also touches on forgiveness, betrayal, and the masks we wear to hide our true selves. The rich supporting cast, including Kate, a fashion designer rising in Europe, and a group of Brazilian women running a multicultural restaurant called Mãos de Fada, adds depth, culture, and color to the emotional journey.
Love in the Storm is not merely a love story. It’s a deep psychological exploration that invites readers to face their own ghosts, redefine their relationships, and ask:
How many moments have we lost to pride? And how far can we go if we dare to feel fully, honestly, and without fear?
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH LUCIANA SOARES
VORAKA: What inspired the story of Love in the Storm, and how personal was the writing process for you?
LUCIANA: I wanted to help people reframing their pain, but writing freely, as Freud suggested, I was shocked to see myself in the characters. One scene made me cry without understanding why, and I later changed it. To this day, I wonder why it touched me so deeply. It was an intimate, transformative process where art and psychoanalysis crossed paths.
